NOTICE OF INTENTION TO FILL COUNCIL MEMBER VACANCY BY APPOINTMENT Notice is hereby given that on the 26th day of January, 2017 the City Council of The City of Mystic, Iowa adopted a resolution proposing to fill Council Member vacancy by appointment and authorizing posting of notice. The City Council, pursuant to Iowa Code section 69.12, intends to fill this vacancy by appointment until the next regular City election. All persons interested in being appointed to this vacancy by The City Council are requested to submit a letter to the City Clerk at 304 W Main St Mystic, Iowa 52574 by noon on February 8, 2017 . All interested persons are also requested to attend the City Council meeting on February 9, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers at 304 W Main St, Mystic, Iowa, 52574 at which time the City Council will take into consideration the matter of appointment to fill this vacancy. You are further notified that after the foregoing appointment had been made, the electors of the City of Mystic have a right to file a petition requiring that the vacancy be filled by special election. Since this notice is being posted prior to the filling of the vacancy by appointment, any petition must be filed within fourteen (14) days after the appointment is made. The petition will need at least the number of signatures equal to fifteen (15) percent of the voters who voted for candidates for the office of Council Member at the preceding regular election, or at least ten signatures, whichever is greater. If a petition requesting a special election is filed within fourteen (14) days after the appointment, the appointment is temporary and the City Council shall be required to call a special election.
